How to Program a Chevy Garage Door Opener

How to Program Chevy Garage Door Opener for the First Time

Setting up your HomeLink® system to connect with your garage door and other devices in Shawnee Mission is quite simple. Just make sure your remote control transmitter has a fresh battery. Then, park your car in the driveway facing the garage and do the following:

1. Start the ignition.
2. Locate HomeLink® on the ceiling, above the center console, or close to the rearview mirror. The HomeLink® unit has 3 buttons.
3. Press and hold the first and third buttons together, until your car’s lights begin to flash. You might need to hold the buttons down for up to 20 seconds. When the lights begin to flash, move onto step four.
4. Choose a HomeLink® button to assign to your garage door opener. Press and hold that button and the open button on your garage door remote at the same time. Your HomeLink® indicator light will switch from slow flashing to rapid flashing. That means you’ve successfully connected your garage door opener to HomeLink®!
5. When the indicator light becomes solid, programming is complete.

What to Do if the HomeLink® Indicator Light Doesn’t Stop Flashing

In some instances, the HomeLink® indicator light continues flashing rapidly. This means your garage door uses a rolling code system and you’ll need to follow the below steps:

1. Find the “learn code” button on your main garage door unit inside your garage. It will be located under the light cover or on the rear panel.
2. Press and hold the “learn code” button until a red LED blinks. From this point, you have 30 seconds to finish programming.
3. While the LED blinks, quickly return to your vehicle and press the pre-programmed HomeLink® button 4 times until the garage door responds.
