Most Merriam drivers know that electric cars like the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV don’t need gas to run, which makes these vehicles pretty appealing with gas prices as high as they are. But do electric cars need oil? No, they do not use oil and there’s no such thing as electric car oil change. But, what if the car is a hybrid? Hybrids are a little different, and we’ll talk about that below. The staff in our service center wants to help keep you informed, so let’s talk about these questions in more depth.
Do electric cars need oil at all? No, when you drive a fully electric car, oil change appointments are a thing of the past. But there are still a few things you will need to check occasionally in order to keep your car running smoothly on our Kansas City roads, like the brake and transmission fluid, as well as coolant if the car is equipped with a radiator. You will also need to rotate and replace the tires.
A hybrid car has a gas engine that works in tandem with its electric motor. Since a hybrid is not a fully electric car, oil change appointments will still need to be made, as will other maintenance tasks that are performed on a gas-combustion vehicle. However, these services are typically needed less frequently in a hybrid car than a gas-combustion car, because the gas engine is used less as it’s supported by the electric motor.
The Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV use no oil as they are fully electric vehicles. As will be the upcoming Silverado EV, Blazer EV, and Equinox EV. There will soon be lots of choices for Shawnee Mission Chevy drivers looking for a more economical commute.
